AVID at A.L. Stanback

What is AVID?

Advancement Via Individual Determination or AVID is an elective class that prepares students for college and beyond! In class, students learn the "tricks" to school such as: 

  • Expert note taking. 

  • Organization with binder and planner usuage.
  • Problem solving with weekly tutoring. 
  • Advocating skills! 

The extras of AVID include:

  • Team building activities. 
  • Field trips to colleges. 
  • Academic and social support. 
  • 6th-8th grade commitment. 

Who is an AVID student? 

AVID students are often:

  • Mostly B and C students.
  • Motivated, but would benefit from support.
  • First generation college students.
  • From underrepresented populations in higher learning. 
  • Have special circumstances

How do I apply?

  • Get the AVID application from your 5th grade teacher or apply here:
  • Submit the applicaiton by March 6th, 2026.  
  • Attend the AVID interview in person at AL Stanback on March 24th.
